11 Factors to Consider When Choosing The Best Gym in Caldwell, ID

When you’re looking for the perfect gym membership near you, it’s like finding your soulmate. You have to take some time and really think about what is important in a place where you might spend a good deal of your free time.

It’s hard to know where to start when looking for a new place to workout. You’ve probably taken a minute to Google search something like “gym near me” or “best gym in Caldwell, ID” and there are so many options, and it can be tough to figure out which one is the right fit for you.

You want an environment that suits both what type of fitness goals and personality you have! Luckily we at Sideyard Training Crossfit are here with eleven tips to help you make this process as painless as possible:

#1. The coaches are attentive and take the time to learn your name and goals

Coaches at a good gym will take the time to learn your name, your goals, and what you can do. They will also be attentive during the class and help correct your form or provide feedback on how things could potentially go better for the next workout -or possibly prevent injury if needed!

The coaches make you feel important and part of a community. When you walk into the place you’re going to workout, you should feel like you’re home.

At Sideyard Training Crossfit, we know every single one of our members on a first-name basis, we are like family.

We know how much more motivating it can be to do it in a place where you can be yourself and meet like-minded people who are focused on getting their health back.

#2. The community is thriving and the members are welcoming

A good gym will have a sense of community and the members will be welcoming to new people. There is no better way to make someone feel like they are a part of something than by being warm and inviting.

Being part of a great community gives you a sense of belonging, social support, and a place to share common interests and goals with others.

Everyone may show up to a workout with a different goal in mind, but you all still share a common goal. To be better today than you were yesterday and to do something that scares you a little bit every day. These are the things that bring people together and create community.

Sideyard Training Crossfit is a great place to make friends and find support.

We have monthly challenges, social events, and workouts that are themed (Halloween, Christmas, etc). We love to get together outside of the gym and support each other in our fitness journeys!

#3. It’s not too crowded

A good gym will not allow the classes to get too crowded. This can be a problem at big box fitness locations, but it’s not as much of an issue at a small independently-run local group training studio. We won’t oversell our classes for profit.

At Sideyard Training Crossfit, our class experience is important.

So we limit class sizes, to ensure everyone has enough space, and the coach on duty can lead the group.

In other words, you’re not just a number at our gym. You’re an individual with goals and we want to help you find success!

#4. The programming is constantly varied

A good gym will have constantly varied programming in their workouts that keeps you coming back for more. You don’t want to do the same thing day in and day out. Not only is it boring, but you’re also less likely to see results.

At Sideyard Training Crossfit, we scale daily CrossFit workout programming for all levels (beginners, intermediate, and advanced).

This way everyone can make progress and learn at their own pace. In addition, our programming is constantly varied so you never get bored.

Every day, you show up with a game plan already built for you:

  • We take you through a proper warm-up to get your body moving.
  • We will discuss the day’s movements as a team to give you confidence.
  • Discuss the scaling options to match the workout to your ability.
  • Perform the daily workout
  • We cool down together post-workout with a proper recovery-focused session that includes stretching and breathing
  • Record your performance in our app to chart progress
  • Follow habit and behavior-based nutrition guides we give you outside of the gym to enhance performance, lose weight, and gain strength
  • Get good sleep to wake up sharp and recovered for the day ahead

Our daily workouts are posted online the night before. Our coaches design each week’s programming to ensure that you never do the same workouts twice and are excited about a new challenge. We want you to love coming to the gym and getting in shape!

#5. The coaches are certified and practice continued education in-house

All of the coaches at a good gym will be certified. This means they have completed a certification course and know how to coach proper form and technique.

However, being a great teacher is a life-long endeavor, whereas certification is only typically a weekend-long commitment. So at Sideyard Training Crossfit, we have a culture of continued education, we meet with our coaches regularly to educate them and better them as leaders and guides within our community.

Our staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about CrossFit, it shines through in the way they coach and care for our members.

We are constantly learning and growing as a gym and we want our coaches to be the same! One of the biggest values of our gym is the feeling like you have a knowledgeable personal trainer guiding you through a great workout, without paying personal trainer prices!

#6. There is a sense of accountability

The best gyms will have a strong sense of accountability among their members. This means that members are held to a high standard and are expected to work hard.

At Sideyard Training Crossfit, every member completes their scaled version of the workout of the day.

Then we log results to chart progress at the end of each class. Because what gets measured, matters.

We are all accountable to each other and it’s one of the things that makes our team and tribe so special. When you’re held to a high standard, you rise to meet it. And that’s what we see every day at Sideyard Training Crossfit!

#7. The equipment is well-maintained and there is enough for everyone

The equipment at the best fitness studios will be well-maintained and in good condition. You don’t want to workout using broken equipment or machines that don’t work properly.

At Sideyard Training Crossfit, we invested in top-quality equipment.

We ask each member to wipe down after use and return back to its area after each class. Each member finds their space more appreciated for it because of how caring our culture is towards the great equipment we all share!

We limit our classes, so we don’t get crowded. We also have enough equipment for every member on the floor during a class workout.

#8. It’s not too far away

A good gym in Caldwell, ID will be close to your home or work, so it’s easy to get there. If it’s not close by, you’re less likely to go use your membership and workout.

Sideyard Training Crossfit is conveniently located in Caldwell, ID

We know that getting to the gym is one of the biggest excuses people use for not focusing on their health, so we’ve made it easy for you!

#9. People are loving it

When you’re looking for the perfect gym, it’s important that not only do they offer great services but also have an excellent reputation among locals.

When considering the different local gyms to join, look for ones with great reviews and lots of happy members.

At Sideyard Training Crossfit, we have the best of both worlds! Our members are loving it and our reviews reflect that.

At Sideyard Training Crossfit, our hours are convenient and we offer plenty of classes to fit your busy schedule!

We have morning, afternoon, and evening classes to choose from! You can view our class schedule here.

#11. The overall value of the gym membership

Value is an important factor when deciding which fitness gym to join. The overall value you receive should be weighed against the cost of membership, as well as how much care and effort is put into developing a community, creating a clean and safe space, top-notch equipment, and amazing coaches who care and know you.

At Sideyard Training Crossfit, we a not going to be the cheapest gym in town, but we are going to be your best value.

Because we understand that when making an investment in yourself, money is one thing, but it’s your time that is the most valuable, and not getting results is a waste of your time.

Nicolas Jayo

coach - CF-L1

I’m Nic Jayo, a CF-L1. I started CrossFit when I moved up to the area from Twin Falls in 2020. I fell in love with
it from day 1. Physical fitness and exercise has always been a big part of my life but a person can only do so
many bi and back days. The introduction to CrossFit for me was amazing. I enjoy what defines CrossFit:
constantly varied functional movements at a high intensity. The competitive nature of it is also a plus. BUT the
community is what really grabs me and what it’s been all about. I’ve met some amazing people and gained
many friends from my experience in this CrossFit world. I live that dog dad life with two golden retrievers. Every
day I strive to make them proud of me. I love being with my family and friends. I don’t do much of it but I really
enjoy traveling and camping. Don’t get me wrong I also enjoy and appreciate a lazy weekend on the couch to
recharge a bit! I am excited to be a part of the SideYard staff and community here in Middleton.

Lindsay Batie

I’m Willa! I’ve been married to my husband Zack for 9 years and we have two boys. I started CrossFit when my first son was a little over a year old. CrossFit changed my perception of my body and for the first time in my life I was focused on strength and performance rather than just physical appearance. It continues to make me feel strong and empowered as a mom of young kids. I’m passionate about helping other moms feel strong in every season of motherhood and encouraging fitness in their kids as well. I’ve been at a few different gyms since starting CrossFit and Side Yard by far has felt the most like home. I’ve learned so much as an athlete and been so grateful to be a coach here!

CrossFit Kids

Lindsay Batie

CF-L1 - CrossFit Kids

I was just looking for something to replace my running habit during the cold, Idaho winter months, when I anxiously walked into my first CrossFit class at SideYard three years ago. What was meant to be a temporary stand-in to keep me in shape through winter, CrossFit has become one of the best parts of my (almost) daily routine. As an athlete, I love the encouraging community, challenging workouts, and quality coaching of CrossFit. I value showing up each morning at the gym to an expertly programmed workout and a knowledgeable coach present and ready to give instruction and motivation.

Since that first day of CrossFit, I have become a Crossfit L-1 and CrossFit Kids trainer. As a trainer, I love helping athletes of all ages progress in their skills and meet their individual goals. It is important to me that everyone feels welcomed and accepted, as well as challenged and successful, when they leave class, regardless of their skill level or background.

I am a mom of two amazing kids and a student in the Physical Therapist Assistant program at the College of Western Idaho. CrossFit has replaced my running addiction.

Amanda Smith

Head Coach

I’m Amanda Smith, a CF-L1 coach at SideYard Crossfit and also a certified surgical first assistant. I first got into CrossFit after a friend begged me for weeks to go, and after many failed attempts; I finally showed up. I won’t lie, I couldn’t even finish the workout that day and I was so sore afterwards that I wasn’t looking forward to going back and the only reason I did was because I didn’t want them to think I was a quitter (I literally laugh about this now). At the time, I was completely unaware of the profound impact it would have on my life. I have seen such a positive change in not only my physical strength, but my mindset as well. It has taught me that I can do hard things and whatever I put my mind to and anytime you start to doubt yourself; you have a pretty awesome group of people supporting and cheering you on.

What I love most about coaching is seeing people grow and accomplish things that they thought were impossible. I love when someone gets their first pull up or first box jump and just being able to see how excited they are and know I was able to be apart of that. It’s a very rewarding feeling seeing people accomplish their goals!

In my spare time I love spending time with my menagerie of pets, anything outdoors, barrel racing, audiobooks, and food!

Rachel Franks

General Manager - CF-L1 - Olympic Lifting

Hello, my name is Rachel Franks and I’m addicted to CrossFit. I was never an amazing athlete or very competitive growing up, just your average high school basketball/volleyball girl who did basically nothing consistent again until after babies. Which surprised the heck out of me when I finally discovered and fell in love with CrossFit in 2015. Where was CrossFit when I was in high school!?? Since then, I’ve been had most of those years (plus 50 lbs shed forever!) here with SideYard. This addiction has become my passion that I hope to pass on to everyone who walks in the door! I’m on this journey with you too, and I’m so thankful for this community and the support system that we have here!

CrossFit Level 1

Hi I’m Morgan!  I’ve been married to my husband Jake for 7 years and am a proud mother of four wonderful kids.  I started CrossFit at SideYard about two and half years ago after a friend talked me into trying it.  I was a little intimidated at first but I soon found out what a supportive, welcoming, and energizing community SideYard is.  I loved being apart of it so much I decided to become a coach myself!  Through this journey I’ve come to appreciate all the things my body can and is capable of doing.  I also have my kids apart of the program as well!

I discovered CrossFit 7+ years ago with a friend who brought me to this gym at the perfect time in my life. I loved being athletic. I danced, ran track, and raced cross country all through high school. As those things were coming to an end, CrossFit established itself as a necessity to my physical and mental well-being. The last few years have taught me so much! In March 2019 I became a certified CrossFit Level-1 trainer, And then had to learn to exercise through a serious injury, and then through pregnancy. I am now learning to be a CrossFit mom while also being an athlete and coach. My husband and I live in Wilder with our baby girl and 2 dogs.

Owner of SideYard CrossFit and instigator of health and life changes.  Who am I?  Great question as we are all on a journey of discovery and finding our purpose right?  Well in facts only: I am a mother of 2 amazing adults, I am a daughter, a sister of two (since passed) siblings, a Registered Nurse, a L2 Certified CrossFit Trainer, and a crazy self-employed, small business owner.  In 2013, I found CrossFit and fell in love.  Since then I have pursued education and experience to pass a long to anyone who wants a serious change in their life.  I work part-time in the hospital because I worked darn hard for that nursing degree, but I really actually dislike the healthcare system, like REALLY dislike it.  No one tells you that you can fix almost every ailment or disease by changing your eating and lifestyle.  It’s hard though.  That’s why we’ve adopted a saying that “we can do hard things” at SideYard. We help you form the lifelong habits that change your future! So welcome to and enjoy your new 2nd Home!
